Hellblazer vol 2 the devil you know6/26/2023 This collection – available in paperback and digital formats – collects Hellblazer #10-13, Hellblazer Annual #1 plus 2-part tangential miniseries The Horrorist: cumulatively spanning January to October 1988 and revelling in the renaissance of comicbook horror these yarns spearheaded, and which thrive to this day.īack in 1987, Creative Arts and Liberal Sentiments were dirty words in many quarters and the readership of Vertigo was pretty easy to profile. Ah, what happy, simple times they seem now… Granted his own series by popular demand, Constantine premiered at the height of Thatcherite Barbarism in Britain, during the dying days of Reaganite Atrocity in the US, to become a founding father of DC’s adult-oriented Vertigo imprint. Sometimes, though, he’s all there is between us and the al-consuming void… Originally created by Alan Moore during his groundbreaking run on Swamp Thing, John Constantine is a mercurial modern wizard, a dissolute chancer who plays like an addict with magic on his own terms for his own ends. By Jamie Delano, David Lloyd, Richard Piers Rayner, Mark Buckingham, Bryan Talbot, Mike Hoffman, Dean Motter & various (DC Comics)

Dark rise by cs pacat6/26/2023 James works for a man called Simon, who is fixated on bringing the Dark King back and unleashing darkness upon the world. Will is drawn into an ancient supernatural war between the forces of the dark, once ruled by the so-called Dark King, and light, defended by an order of white-clad knights known as the Stewards. We soon learn he is on the run after his mother was murdered in front of him three months ago. The boy is Will, 17 and working on a cargo ship on the Thames. There’s talk of a boy, who is still alive, much to the resentment of James. It’s 1821 London, and James and Marcus converse in the kind of densely allusive fantasy language that won’t make sense until later. Marcus, a Steward, is being held in the bowels of a ship by the impossibly beautiful James, a classic blonde-haired Pacat character in the same vein as Laurent from Captive Prince. In perhaps a nod to the earlier trilogy, Dark Rise also begins with a scene of captivity. So it is interesting to watch Pacat now turn to young adult and tackle similar ideas but for a presumably younger audience (only presumably: half of all young adult readers are adults). Apart from being a lot of fun, the novels are also finely written and shot through with a surprising amount of darkness. Pacat’s blockbuster first trilogy of “ sexy homoerotic slave novels” begins with one of the protagonists bound and gagged in a dungeon.

Dead to Rights by J.A. Jance6/25/2023 The dogs were a lot like her, in that no one wanted them, they had been abused, and so she gave them everything she had, especially love. We meet Carol before her death, and see the love she has for her dogs.I couldn't help feeling so bad for them. This has got to be one of the saddest murders I've ever read. The only different thing she had happening in her life at this time was that a couple of reporters were supposed to visit her.but what could she know that would be worth murder? Joanna Brady, hampered by reelection troubles and trying to balance her family, needs to find out. She was living in a run down mobile home, and she spent what little money she had on food for her and the dogs, not on things like electricity. The motive in this case is really confusing.Carol had nothing. It is only the visit of an animal control officer, coming to see if the woman, Carol Mossman, has been able to license and vaccinate all her dogs that leads to the heart breaking discovery. Her seventeen dogs, trapped inside, become victim to the terrible Arizona heat and lay dead around her. A woman has been shot to death in her mobile home. It is one of the most brutal scenes that Sheriff Joanna Brady has ever been witness to. (Reviewed by Cindy Lynn Speer AUG 03, 2003) Joanna Brady - Sheriff, Cochise County, Arizona
